If you've received an email from ApplySafe asking you to complete a reference check, it's because a rental applicant has listed you as a reference - as their current or previous property manager, current or previous employer or a personal contact. The request is legitimate and has been sent because the real estate agency managing the property uses ApplySafe to verify rental applications and the applicant has provided your contact details as part of their application.
The email includes a copy of the privacy statement signed by the applicant. This statement explains how the applicant's personal information and any reference information you provide is collected, used, disclosed and stored as part of the application process.
To complete the reference check, simply click the Provide your reference link in the email. You'll be directed to a short online form where you'll confirm your relationship to the applicant and answer a few questions about their tenancy, employment or character, depending on the type of reference requested.
